About Northwest Ob-GYN

Northwest OB-GYN believes in giving back to the community, in helping to train and educate the next generation of physicians and other provider care givers, and in challenging ourselves to stay current on medical advances, studies, and equipment.  One way we do this is through participating as clinical professors for University of Washington medical students, physicians taking advance training in a specialty area (fellowships), and with other medical education programs  and students on occasion.  All of our physicians are credentialed as clinical professors for the University of Washington.  We believe our participation with this program benefits our patients, our community’s future medical physicians and providers, the individual students and ourselves.  Patients always have the right to not have a medical student or physician receiving advanced training participate in their care, but most appreciate the opportunity for this enhanced personal attention during their visit.

Beginning in May 2017, Northwest OB-GYN Obstetric Physicians will deliver babies at Deaconess Medical Center when this is the preferred hospital by our patient’s health insurance.  We, and Deaconess, are excited about this development.

On Thursday, March 23rd 5:30-7:30 pm, we will be having a women’s night in our suite 6025 – a spring launch party to talk about our non-hormonal treatment for vaginal dryness and related issues, including painful intimacy.  Call 455-5050 to register for this fun and informative event.  Refreshments, door prize and discounts will be offered.

We are looking forward to our 4th certified nurse midwife, Charlie Ann Lynch, joining our group in May 2017.

In 2016, we made another investment in equipment for the health and safety of our patients.  We purchased trophon sterilization units for our ultrasound stations.  Trophon is the only vaginal probe disinfection system proven to kill high-risk HPV.  It is also environmentally friendly.

On August 1, 2016, Dr. Dawn Kopp began seeing patients and we are already hearing from them that she is wonderful!

Our newest CNM, Mahshid Aghasadeghi will be joining us October 15, 2016.  Her picture and a brief bio-sketch is now on our provider page.

Om July 26, 2016, at the Hampton Inn in CDA, Idaho, from 6-9 pm. we will be hosted a women’s community education night to  share information about  our monalisatouch laser treatment.  This is an alternative for women troubled by vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, and lichen scleroma whom are not good candidates for hormonal treatments.

We are very excited to announce three physician and provider staff.  Dawn Kopp, MD joined our practice and will be seeing new patients starting August 1, 2016.  Dr. Kopp is a Board Certified OB-GYN, joining Dr. Kathryn Miles as our female OB physicians and Drs. Daniel Zwiesler, Jeffrey Hilton and Stephen Pakkianathan in taking good care of our OB Moms.  Dr. Kopp will begin seeing patients in early August and is accepting new patients now through our scheduling department at 509-455-5050.  She has recently finished international work in women’s health and has been in Malawi the last two years in this role.

We are also pleased (though delinquent) in welcoming Kelly Rickman, CNM, ARNP to our Northwest Midwives division of the practice as  November 2015.  Kelly joined Lisa Larkin, DNP, CNM, ARNP in our midwifery practice.  Northwest OB-GYN had the first midwife in the state and is committed to develop this program to offer a 24/7/365 nurse midwifery experience for patients whom choose this viable option.   Watch our Facebook page and this website for future developments for Northwest Midwives.  Northwest Midwives is accepting new patient at 509-455-5050.

Jennifer (Jen) Julian, ARNP joined the practice in December 2015 and is supporting both Northwest Urogynecology (aka The Center for Urogyncecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery) and Northwest OB-GYN in providing compassionate and matchless care for our Urogynecology, Gynecology and Obstetric patients.

In May 2016 we again passed the intensive 3 year site survey accreditation visit for our AAAASF Accredited In-Office Procedure Room and Treatments.

Dr. Stephen Pakkianathan was featured in a recent 2016 issue of the Spokane Medical Society Magazine recognizing his passion and skills with ice hockey and with medicine.

Dr. Linda Partoll was again recognized as a 2016 Best Doctor!

We have expanded what you can do through the secure Patient Portal – now you can request prescription refills for current prescription that one our providers ordered, and you can request appointments.  This adds to what you could already see on the portal:  lab and test results and a visit summary, notices of upcoming appointment and reminders.  And it adds to what patients were able to originate:  sending up demographic changes, and notifying us of the need to rescheule, cancal or change appointments.  If you are a current patient and are not on the Portal, please contact us by phone or stop by and we will help you become a portal access patient!  Our portal link is https://mycw4.eclinicalweb.com/obgn/jsp/login/jsp

Drs. Barrong, Partoll and Fern have been once again selected as top Doctors in their specialties in 2014.  Drs. Miles and Pakkianathan passed their specialty Boards and are Board Certified in OB-GYN in 2014. OB-GYN Physicians Stephen Pakkianathan joined the practice in the later part of 2012.

Northwest OB-GYN is AAAASF Accredited for In-Office Surgical Procedures using Moderate/Conscious Sedation. Accreditation requires an extensive development of patient quality and safety criteria, including surgeon competencies, infection management, quality monitoring and many other facets to ensure high quality patient care and positive medical outcomes. The accreditation process includes an intensive survey by a trained medical surveyor during which all of these areas are stringently reviewed for completeness and for compliance. We are proud to note that we passed with flying colors and not one minor deficiency!

As an Accredited In-Office Procedure facility, we are pleased to be able to provide our patients the opportunity to have many in-office procedures performed in our recently renovated procedure room, under conscious IV sedation from highly qualified nurse anesthetists. In-office procedures can be often be performed with more quickly and with less stress on patients, and often at a lower cost with quicker recoveries and equally or better medical outcomes, than if done in other types of settings – for appropriate cases and patients. While not every patient and not every procedure can be performed in-office, we look forward to talking to you about what may be right for you.

Northwest OB-GYN was founded through the work of Dr. Robert Walker, Steve Brisbois, Peter Fern and Glen Hiss.  These four innovative, quality minded and compassionate physicians had formed a practice known as Walker, Brisbois, Fern and Hiss,  developed  the practice from referrals and work with respected and  beloved – but retiring-  OB-GYN physicians Dr. John Moyer and Dr. Larry Brewer.  Progressive clinicians even then, the four founding physicians realized their practice would grow and include specialties within the OB-GYN field and selected the name, Northwest OB-GYN, in recognition of serving women throughout the greater northwest across the full spectrum of obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Peter Fern, FACOG (1985) and Dr. Hiss, FACOG (1986) continue to be sought after physicians by both patients and referring physicians, while Dr. Walker consults with the practice on medical regulations.  Dr. Brisbois has joined Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center as one of its Robotics experts.

Over the years, Dr. Linda Partoll, FACOG, (1993), Dr. Shawn Barrong, FACOG (1997), Dr. Jeffrey Hilton, FACOG (2006), Dr. Daniel Zwiesler, FACOG (2008), Dr. Kathryn Miles (2010), Dr. Sarah Hammil, FACOG (2011) and Stephen Pakkianathan, MD have continued to share the same values and vision of a patient centered practice.

These physicians ensure that the full range of comprehensive and integrated women’s health care is provided with expertise and compassion throughout Northwest OB-GYN.

NWOBGYN remains committed to offer comprehensive women’s healthcare services under a shared center of excellence, staying current in new technologies, medical advances and subspecialties, to provide the best integrated care for our patients.

In addition to providing the full range of physician obstetrics and gynecology, the practice was delighted to have Dr. Linda Partoll join and focus on Urogynecology. Dr. Partoll is one of the very few physicians in our wide geographic area to have been Fellowship trained in this specialty field. Dr. Sarah Hammil, joining NWOBGYN in 2011, is our second specialist physician in this area and is also Fellowship trained in Urogynecology. Dr. Partoll and Dr. Hammil have privileges at both CHS-Deaconess Medical Center and Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. Our Urogynecology division comprises approximately one third of our practice – truly a commitment to this area of women’s health.

In 1989 the practice recognized the special place that midwifery can have along the pregnancy experience and developed a practice with certified nurse midwives. Shelley Northern, CNM, ARNP (2010) and Elizabeth Britain, CNM, ARNP (2012) continue the legacy of now retired midwife Sharron Bradley, ARNP, CNM in assisting those women who have lower risk pregnancies and the desire midwifery care option. Our Certified Nurse midwives deliver at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Birthing Place.

Several NW OB-GYN physicians have an interest in and have become certified in the use of robotics surgeries for OB-GYN.

The practice also realized that patient care and convenience could also be furthered if we were to offer high quality in-office ultrasounds performed by highly competent and quality Sonographers.  In 2011, NWOBGYN replaced its older machines with  two new “state of the art” 3d/4D ultrasounds that were designed specifically for use in women’s healthcare.

Northwest OB-GYN also has excellent ARNP and PA-C staff that are important and valued members of our health care team and whom our patients may see during various components of their care at our offices.

The practice has electronic medical records, and is committed to fulfilling HIPAA requirements., billing compliance, and other regulatory and legal requirements  for practicing healthcare.

Northwest OB-GYN has successfully met women’s healthcare needs in an ever changing healthcare environment for over 30 years, and looks forward to continuing to be the physician practice of choice for women throughout the great Northwest.
